Hamilton Beach 31199R Countertop 1.1-Cubic-Foot Convection Oven with Optional Rotisserie Review

This is just the toaster oven that I have been looking for. You wont find a counter top toaster oven this large in the department stores. This oven is extra tall, but yet still fits under your kitchen cabinets. In department stores, you’ll find them extra wide, but not extra tall. This is an actual oven. You can put a whole 5lb chicken in it. I I’ve had it for 2 weeks, and so far I have baked 2 chickens (whole). I seasoned the chicken, wrapped it in an oven bag, closed the bag with a tie, placed it on a pan and put it in the oven. The chicken took 1.5 hours to cook on a 450 setting, but that’s because I did not pre-heat the oven. But it was well worth the wait. The chicken came out so tender that it almost fell away from the bone (From the oven bags locking in the moisture). The next time I baked a whole chicken, I preheated the oven first to 475. This time it took only one hour instead of 1.5.
BROILING: IN YOUR REGULAR TOASTER OVEN, HAVE YOU EVER WISHED THE FOOD WASN’T SO CLOSE TO THE TOP ROD, CAUSING POPPING OF GREASE, MAKING A MESS, ETC.? With this big oven, you can place the rack mid level so that the food you’re broiling is not right up against the top heating rods. I broiled red snapper fish the other day. Because of the size of this oven, you can broil up to 4 large pieces of fish at the same time. I placed the rack at mid level, there was no popping of juices all over the place. The oven was still clean.
ROTISSERIE FUNCTION: I have not yet used the rotisserie function because string is necessary to tie up the wings and legs for whole chickens, and I didnt have any string available. I will be using the rotisserie feature in the near future when I’m ready to make a pot roast.
But for now, the next items I plan to bake in this oven are a bunt cake and a peach cobbler.
By the way, although this oven gives off heat(it is an oven you know)it will not make your place unbearably hot like your regular oven. Apartment dwellers like myself will absolutely love this oven. It wont heat up the whole apartment like your regular oven. LAST WONDERFUL THING: YOU CAN LOOK THROUGH THE GLASS AND SEE IF YOUR MEAT IS DONE. My opinion is that “You should buy it”. I dont know why they dont sell this big oven in department stores.

Love it, use it almost every day – R. Peremen – Chicago, IL USA
When we got rid of our microwave (for health reasons) we needed something to replace it. This turned out to be a very useful replacement. We have been able to use it for a variety of cooking and probably still have not figured out its full potential. We grill, baked, broiled and rotisseried in it almost every day since we got it about a month ago.
Yes, the door is a bit flimsy, and I would have loved for it to fit better, but if you notice that it is closed it is not a big deal.
Yes, it does get very hot on the outside, so we make sure nothing sits next to it.
Yet, the rotisserie is not the most powerful one, so we put a slightly smaller chicken on it and tied it well.
All in all, we are very happy to have this oven and are ready to keep on using it for a lot of our cooking. It is a good value for the price.
Great oven! – Kelz –
I bought this oven to go into the conversion school bus I’m working on. It’s the perfect size for cooking – and can serve as a microwave (which i will not have in the bus) as well as an oven! This oven is made by Hamilton Beach. We own one other, smaller Hamilton Beach toaster/toaster oven (it has toast slots in the top) and it works great! We LOVE it! I have yet to actually use my new oven, but I am very excited about it, seeing the great performance we have seen out of the smaller Hamilton Beach oven we have. I bought this while it was on sale – only around – which is why I haven’t used it yet. The bus is nowhere near ready to have cooking appliances installed, but I couldn’t pass up the great low price, and it offered everything I wanted in an oven for my bus!
Best Oven Ever – JerseySurvivor – Vineland, NJ United States
I have been using countertop ovens ever since my kids grew up and moved out. No need to heat up a big oven for only two people so my big oven is now used to store pots & pans. That said, when my last countertop oven died, I did a week’s worth of research before replacing it. I chose this oven and I’m so glad I did.
The size is perfect. I can fit a 13 x 9 pan (albeit diagonally) and even a pizza pan. The rotisserie turned out the best cornish hens ever. The convection feature cooks quickly and thoroughly – perfect for being able to come home from work and put dinner on the table at a decent hour. I have used all of the functions of this oven and they are all absolutely terrific. The oven is also easy to keep clean. I just can’t say enough good things about it. It does take up a bit of counter space, but it is so worth every inch. If you buy it, you won’t be disappointed.
